PREACHER MAN

PREACHER MAN

Preacher man preacher man stop telling me how things are going to be.
I can think for myself and I only believe what I can see.
My mind is open to all things and opinions that man has to sell.
But you say if I don’t believe what you believe, I’m going to hell.

Preacher man preacher man preaching your fire and brimstone,
Tell your fairy-tales to someone else and leave me alone.
Who is more righteous, the one who does good because of the hell that you sing,
Or the one that does good just because it’s the right thing.

Preacher man preacher man you know all too well
That man made this place you call hell.
Nothing is right and nothing is wrong
It’s just man that makes it that way in his song.

Preacher man preacher man maybe things are as you say.
I hope in my heart that they are every day.
Oh it would be so great to have a heaven above;
A place that has nothing but love.

Preacher man preacher man there’s nothing you can prove; it’s just something being read by you.
The fact that you’re saying these things don’t make them true.
There is one thing where we do agree.
Like most of mankind, after this life, I hope there’s
someplace to be.

Preacher man preacher man I hope you are right.
I pray in the end my soul will take flight.
Stop saying, we are going north or south, but say we’re going west or east,
And in this place of love, there is no beast.

Preacher man preacher man there is something about religion that is very sad.
Too many people have died in the name of religion and that makes me mad.
I think Carlin said it best all the way to the end,
Religious wars are like saying my imaginary friend can beat up your imaginary friend.

Preacher man preacher man how can you show me the way when you have only one goal.
When you’re more interested in my money than my soul.
This faith you speak of I wish I could receive,
But how can I have faith when you choose to deceive.

Preacher man preacher man when it’s all over, when it all ends,
All I see is a body surrounded by friends.
There’s no way to know that there was a soul
And that it just left with someplace to go.

Preacher man preacher man I do believe that there is a power greater than us,
But to explain to you what they are, would be such a bust.
You see I don’t know any more than you do,
But then you’re preaching to me, I’m not preaching to you.
