OLD SCHOOL

OLD SCHOOL

When I was a young lad my dad said to me, son,
You don't put your tools away 'till your work is done.
He said when dealing with your fellow man always use the golden rule.
I know that's not the way it's done today, but dear Ole dad was old school.

Used to be when someone was down and in need
People from all around would get together and do a good deed.
These days to go out on a limb for a neighbor you would be called a fool.
But that's what people used to do back when things were done old school.

Things were different when I was a young man, I don't mean to brag.
We put our hands over our hearts and pledge allegiance to our flag.
It seems that somewhere along the way being an American has become uncool.
I say stand-up and be proud of what you are, I guess that's being old school.

You have your God that you say is the one and only and will never deceive.
Well I have mine and I won't apologize for what I believe.
If my God given right to pray offends you and you think you want to dual.
I won't back down from anything; I guess I was brought up old school.

I know the people over there don't like the way we do things over here.
Just because you think I should live my life the way you live yours, I won't live in fear.
I don't need anyone to tell me how to live my life and that may sound cruel.
It may sound like spite but I fought for that right, I guess you can call me old school.

I would rather be camping or living off the land
Than to be at a country club with a fancy drink in my hand.
I would rather be swimming at an old creek than sitting at the side of a pool.
I like plain, old fashion fun, I guess that makes me old school.

With hard work anything is possible or so it may seem.
From the sweat of your brow, you can achieve the American dream.
I believe in a day's pay for a day's work using your hands as a tool.
Nowadays, everybody wants something for nothing, so I guess working hard is old school.

I think we should have pride in a job well done.
We should have honor in the things we have begun.
When we give our word, we should have a head like a mule.
Well, you can do what you want with your life, but I’m living mine old school.
