MY LIFE SO FAR

I flirted with death and it flirted back.

I flirted with hate and everything went black.

I flirted with life and it set me free.

I flirted with love, now I can see.

I've seen the darkness and I've touched the light.

I've turned the other cheek and I've joined the fight.

I've had my jobs and rested when I was done.

I've gazed at the moon and I've felt the sun.

I have my good times, I have my bad.

I have my laughter and sometimes feel sad.

I have my ups and I have my downs.

I've had my turn on the merry-go-round.

I've been to the mountain top and the valley down below.

I've been halfway around the world, but I still have places to go.

I've traveled slow and I've traveled fast.

I'm moving into the future but I still think about the past.

I've lived in the desert with the tumbleweeds and sand.

I've lived in the gulf where for the hurricanes you better have a plan.

I've lived in the jungle where there once was war, suffering, and pain.

I've lived on an island where the monsoon brings the rain.

I've been up north in blizzards of snow.

I've been down south, as far as I could go.

I've been to the east where I lived as a guest.

A few years later Uncle Sam called and I found myself in the west.

I've dug a few ditches and flipped a burger or two.

I've done my time at war and that's all true.

I've put up stock and I've tended bar.

I drove a cab and worked on a tug, so there you are.

I've played many games of love and always lost when it ends.

I hope the game will be different as this new love begins.

My kids and grandkids brighten my life like a shining star.

I know it's closer to the end than the time it began, but this is . . . my life so far.
