JUST LOOKING FOR A SIGN

JUST LOOKING FOR A SIGN

Everyone has their gods that keeps them on a path.
If they veer off this road they are told to expect his wrath.
Which god is right, I just can’t make up my mind.
I’m not asking for much . . . I’m just looking for a sign.

People say there is a heaven and a hell.
I don’t know if there’s a heaven, but hell, I know it well.
If this is all there is, then life’s end would be so unkind.
I want to know if death is a new journey . . . I’m just looking for a sign.

One day doing something is wrong and the next day it’s right.
One page says we should turn the other cheek and another says we should stand and fight.
Some things we are meant to know and to other’s we are blind.
What’s right and what’s wrong . . . I’m just looking for a sign.

There are things in your mind that you know to be true.
There are things in my mind that are different from you.
I don’t believe in your truth and you don’t believe in mine.
I want to know the real truth . . . so I’m just looking for a sign.

Some say they’ve seen ghost from the past.
Some ghosts just linger and some have a task.
Some come back just to say they’re fine.
I’ve never seen anything . . . I’m just looking for a sign.

I know there’s a direction that’s right and a direction that’s wrong.
Sometimes you can find your way in the words of an old song.
I want to know the truth about what happens at the end of our time.
The answers out there somewhere . . . I’m just looking for a sign.

I found a love that seems so right.
I found someone to hold me all through the night.
I have someone that makes the chaos of life rhyme.
Is this love right or is this love wrong . . . I’m just looking for a sign.

I think maybe we’re just the fruit of the vine.
So I’m sitting here sipping on a glass of wine.
As the length to the day and the spirits of my glass begin to intertwine,
I look through my blurry eyes and it all becomes clear . . . I think I see a sign.

ON THE EDGE

ON THE EDGE

I open my eyes and it’s a new day on the edge of death.
I get out of bed and I take a deep breath.
I have an appointment with death that will just have to wait.
I have many things to do before my expiration date.

Time is not my friend, it keeps running fast.
I try to stay ahead, but I know I won’t last.
I try to out run death but I know I can’t win.
I’ve managed to keep a few steps ahead, but I know death will catch me in the end.

Is there a heaven and is there a hell.
I’ll never know here because only my dying will tell.
Believing in a place no one has ever seen is a hard sell.
But I think I’m already in a place called hell.

I have an appetite for some things that I crave.
There are things I want to do before spending eternity in a grave.
It would be great to achieve immortality from the words that I write.
To be able to come back and see this would be such a delight.

The clock is tic, tic, ticking so I will try to have fun.
I know when my time comes there will be so much left undone.
I know when I’m gone there will be so much I will miss.
Like the people I love and a special someone’s kiss.

The past is gone forever and the future sits on my bow.
I have my hopes and dreams but all I really have is now.
I can’t go backwards as hard as I may try.
My destination is forward and when I arrive I die.

I started out slow and as time went by I picked up steam.
Time begins to go faster and faster if you know what I mean.
Tick tock, seconds turn into minutes, minutes into hours, hours into a day.
Tick tock, tick tock, time keeps slipping away.

As the sun goes down, I know I’ve taken on everything that’s come my way.
There’s still so much left to do, there’s still so much left to say.
I close my eyes knowing another night brings me closer to the ledge.
I hope I can keep my balance through another night . . . walking on the edge.

IN THE MIDDLE

IN THE MIDDLE

There’s a demon that lurks deep within.
He makes me do bad things, he makes me sin.
There’s an angel that helps me do good and keeps away the devil.
He keeps me pointed in the right direction but I keep drifting back in the middle.

There’s a darkness that consumes my soul.
There’s a light that keeps me with a goal.
The angel has no harp and the devil has not fiddle.
Between the two of them, I’m stuck in the middle.

Some believe there is a God and he has a great plan.
Others believe we are just here and we have to do what we can.
I believe it’s just not that simple, that life is a riddle.
I believe a little of both, so I guess I’m in the middle.

There are those that are far to the left where they stay morning, noon, and night.
There are those that go in the opposite direction, they go all the way to the right.
The left and the right both have their agendas and neither will give a little.
Then here I sit on my fence, smack dab in the middle.

Some people work from dawn to dusk.
For others it’s playing from dusk to dawn that’s a must.
I like to work and play so I have no time to piddle.
I have to work and I love to play so I guess I’m somewhere in the middle.

Some people like to move in the fast lane others like to take it slow.
Some are very laid back while others are always on the go.
Some want to hang with the jet set while others just want to sit and whittle.
I go while I can and then sit for a little so that’s me resting in the middle.

Some people are always happy and others are always mad
Some will laugh at anything and others are always sad.
Some days it feels like I’m in a nursery rhyme, hey diddle diddle.
But you can find me where I always am in my spot in the middle.

In the court of public opinion there are those that feel they are the judge.
When judging what’s right and what’s wrong, they will never budge.
In this trail called life when asked for a conviction or an acquittal.
 You know where I stand . . . that’s right, I’m in the middle.
