BACK WHEN

BACK WHEN

I’m sitting here thinking about life,
Thinking about how life can change in the blink of an eye.
I can’t help wondering how things went so wrong.
I can’t help asking why, why, why.

I know they say things happen for a reason,
But I just can’t wait for all this to end.
I know in all of this there are lessons to be learned,
But all I can think about is how things were . . . back when.

Back when there was still a smile on your face.
Back when the stars still shined bright in the sky.
Back when there was no sadness every day.
Back when there was a day when I didn’t cry.

Back when there was trust.
Back when every word didn’t seem like a lie.
Back when hearts were filled with love.
Back when I didn’t think, every day, that you were going to die.

Back when the light still shined through the dark.
Back when the flavor of the day wasn’t the tool.
Back when right was right and wrong was wrong.
Back when crazy wasn’t the rule.

Back when there were things I could still believe in.
Back when there were things I could still trust.
Back when I knew what I saw was real.
Back when family coming first was a must.

Back when there was innocence.
Back when things were true.
Back when things were what they seemed.
Back when you were you.

Karma has a way of kicking us in the ass.
Sometimes we have to start our lives all over again.
Lessons in life seem to be the hardest to learn.
Saddest of all is that we may never be able to go . . . back when.

MY MISSION

MY MISSION
HOLLIES’ SONG

I have a reason, I have a mission,
It won’t be over till crazy is in remission.
I’m on a mission to find my daughter that’s lost.
There is no consideration of time, no worries of cost.

I can see the place where your soul resides but you’re not there.
There’s someone else living there that just doesn’t care.
Reality hides its face behind a mask
While illusion lies out in the sun and bask.

Deep in a place that accepts no light
I search for the truth and I fear for your life.
I know there is a demon that I must learn how to fight,
Because in your eyes he appears to be good, he appears to be right.

You’ve chosen a path where you will never be the same,
But think about the lives you’ve changed while you live life like it’s a game.
This road that you’re on will have many twist and turns,
I’m afraid before you can find your way back, you must crash and burn.

Evil walks a thin line between darkness and light;
It fades in and out with illusions of what’s wrong and what’s right.
When you look in the eyes of the devil, you can no longer see what’s true.
The demon will leave your soul naked; there will be no more you.

To keep you under total control he must dominate.
To change you from who you are he must intimidate.
Maybe it’s witchcraft, or voodoo, or the devil’s magic dust
That would make you turn your back on everyone and give the devil all your trust.

Some are pointing fingers, there must be someone to blame.
Sometimes there are no reasons or answers that will explain.
Sometimes we have lessons to be learned that only life can teach.
All we can do is pray that somewhere in there the real you we can reach.

All your friends and family have joined my mission to find the real you.
If through the darkness you see some light, it’s just us getting through.
With all of us banded together the light will be as bright as the sun.
The light will guide you back to your friends, your family, your daughters and your son.

In the end your children’s memoirs of all this is what will remain.
They will wonder what they did to make you leave and it will drive them insane.
I have a reason, I have a mission,
It won’t be over till crazy is in remission.

A GIFT

A GIFT

I was drifting through life; I was drifting through time,
I was searching for something that was part of me, something that was mine.
My search led me to a hospital where I paced in a room.
Then there you were a bundle of joy straight from the womb.

A man must multiply for life to be.
Three times one, one times three, three times the blessings on my family tree.
Each time, each place, each birth was a shining light.
Each had their own price but each day was the best day of my life.

In this life I knew you were all I would need.
Two times one plus one I planted the seed.
I never knew where having you in my life would lead.
When you laugh I laugh, when you cry I cry, when you bleed I bleed.

My children are what gives my life meaning.
Whenever I see you my eyes are gleaming.
Without me there would be no you, without you I couldn’t exist.
All the ways you’ve affected my life would be a long list.

I know as a father I haven’t always been right, and I pray that I haven’t always been wrong.
When I’ve needed to take a stand, I’ve tried to be strong.
There are times I wish I could have been stronger and that makes me sad.
As I think back through the years, I feel I wasn’t a very good dad.

In the trials and tribulations of life there are things that are true.
When everything is going wrong, when things are falling apart, family is the glue.
In my life when I really don’t know what to do,
When things are at their worst what helps me is the love I feel from you.

On this day of your birth you truly rein.
On this day you are a celebrity and have all the fame.
On this day you will get presents, cake, and some balloons.
Every year you grew more and more and on this day you bloom.

On the day you were born I began to see the light,
Everything was good, everything seemed so right.
Every year on this day your friends and family gather to make your soul lift.
On your birthday you may get the presents but on the day of your birth I was given a gift.
